TITLE: Drafting Technician

REPORTS TO: The lead drafter on their team and/or Chief Production Officer

OBJECTIVE: To assist staff and clients as necessary to provide top quality architectural services.

DUTIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Attend 8:30 AM daily (Mon-Fri) Draft Task Meeting
  • Attend monthly drafters meeting
  • Be knowledgeable and remain knowledgeable of all frequently used computer programs, such as AutoCAD Architecture, Revit and other programs needed to properly complete tasks and duties.
  • Revise existing drawings as required.
  • Assist other office personnel as required.Attend weekly scheduled production meetings.
  • Generate application drawings and construction drawings using AutoCAD Architecture and Revit.
  • Plot/print drawings and reproduce as needed.

 

Drafting skills (Technical)

Minimum proficiency – makes red-lined corrections to existing drawings.  Creates new drawings from detailed sketches. Draws accurately and to scale.  Does not override dimension text or precision.  Draws ACCURATELY.

Intermediate proficiency – in addition to minimum proficiency skills, is able to create a new set of construction or application drawings by examining and copying information from an existing set of drawings to Wallace templates and adding/altering information per specific instructions.

Advanced proficiency – in addition to intermediate proficiency skills, is able to create an entirely new set of drawings for a new building style per specific instructions.  Has an understanding of Accessibility requirements and actively pursues information regarding such.  Has an understanding of framing requirements and actively pursues information regarding such.

Enhanced proficiency – in addition to advanced proficiency skills, is able to calculate site grading contour lines, HVAC cfm/ductwork, plumbing piping sizes, etc.

Computer Drawing skills – Technical

Minimum proficiency – AutoCAD Architecture/Revit: Uses basic modeling/drawing and modification commands along with existing AEC content to create construction and application drawings. (Example:  Uses existing wall and door and window styles to create simple floorplan. Can apply existing content to create or edit schedules and tables, tag objects and place view/viewports on sheets.

Intermediate proficiency – AutoCAD Architecture/Revit: In addition to minimum proficiency skills, uses basic AutoCAD drawing and modification commands along with existing AutoCAD Architecture AEC content to create 3d drawings. Is able to change display of floor plans and elevations in sheets by A: assigning existing display configurations to viewports in AutoCAD Architecture or B: changing view settings in Revit . Can use a building model to identify possible spatial problems.

Advanced proficiency – AutoCAD Architecture/Revit: In addition to intermediate proficiency skills, can create new AEC content.  Can create new display configurations in AutoCAD Architecture. Can create new views and set parameters in Revit.  Can effectively troubleshoot drawing problems.  Can create new AEC content such as wall styles/families and blocks/components. Is able to create and curate new template files. Can train others in using AutoCAD Architecture/Revit.

Enhanced proficiency – AutoCAD Architecture/Revit: Is able to create LISP/Dynamo routines to automate tasks. Can create complex AEC content. Understands AutoCAD Architecture/Revit structure and can determine “best practices” for a process as it pertains to Wallace Architects and manage the software to accomplish tasks related to that process while maintaining company standard.
